Eclectic Strokes
Graduation Project guided by Nikita Kumari
and faculty guide Swasti Singh Ghai.
Client- Mulberry Silks Pvt. Ltd. | 2019
A collection of home furnishing fabrics designed for the European market, each piece rooted in a personal memory, place, or cultural reference. The work celebrates storytelling through textiles, combining unexpected techniques and surface treatments to create distinctive designs. Developed with a clear understanding of European editors, the process was guided by regional aesthetics, lifestyles, and market sensibilities.

This 7-month project was undertaken at Mulberry Silks, a leading design house producing high-end fabrics for drapery and upholstery in the international market. The brief involved developing five distinct collections, each reflecting the design sensibilities of different regions within the European market, including French, Italian, German, and English furnishing editors
Brief
Process
The emphasis was on developing new concepts and surface treatments through a hands-on, exploratory approach pushing the boundaries of existing textile techniques
Art Deco Fashion
Art Deco was a 1920s movement rooted in architecture and the decorative arts, symbolic of luxury with restraint. Characterized by stylized geometric forms, stepped structures, sunbursts, and sweeping curves.
The avant-garde fashion and abstract textile works of Sonia Delaunay played a key role in shaping this visual language and inspired the direction of this collection.

Grecian Villas
Greek architecture is best known for its open, exposed stone structures like the Parthenon. Greece’s abundant limestone, marble, and high-quality potter’s clay shaped by its unique topography gave the architecture its distinctive character.
This collection draws from Greek art and the textures of natural building materials to evoke a Mediterranean aesthetic.

Transient Structures
Architecture is often associated with permanence. However, transient structures built one day and dismantled the next offer a unique celebration of geometry in space.
This collection is inspired by such impermanent forms and the dynamic work of prolific industrial designer Karim Rashid. His interiors, though minimal, are invigorated by his bold use of color and form.

Tropics
This collection emphasizes vegetation, rare exotic species, and the freshness of tropical islands. Designed for nature lovers, it brings an organic touch to interiors, where natural elements in home furnishings are nearly indispensable. Enlarged leaves are paired with more structured layouts for visual contrast.
Tropical botanical forms, brought to life through artistic coloring and surface treatments, are the driving force behind this collection.

Veiled
ntensive crafting and experimentation enabled the thoughtful execution of slow design.
Elements from age-old traditions like weaving, hand embroidery, and handmade textile arts were reinterpreted into a series of fabrics.
The collection draws inspiration from the work of Anni Albers, particularly her attention to subtle details and highlights that add depth and meaning to the fabric as a whole.
